Let's be honest, does anybody really know what goes through Al Davis's mind on a daily basis? Earlier this week, there were reports that Davis was interviewing prospective candidates should he have decided to fire Cable. With the news that came yesterday, Davis obviously decided to stick with Cable heading into next season.
There are a few reasons why Davis probably chose to stick with Cable.
The first is with the NFL heading into an uncapped year next season and the uncertainty of a 2011 season means that Davis probably didn't want to hire a new coach given the future of the league in question.
The second reason could be that no other head coach truly wants to work in Oakland. As many NFL fans know, they are not a very good team. I would not want to work in Oakland, that's for sure. Maybe it would be a good starting point if you were an up and coming coach trying to make a name for yourself. It would be the internship of NFL coaching.
The third reason why Davis probably chose to stick with Cable is that they did have some huge wins during the 2009 season. They beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Oakland and the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh. I was shocked when they beat the Steelers, as was everybody else probably. So maybe this offers a glimmer of hope for the Silver and Block? Not so fast my friend. As long as Al Davis is in charge, the Raiders are going nowhere!
