2010 Major Sports Key Dates



With 2010 fresh upon us, let's take a look at the key dates of the four major sports in the coming year.

NFL:

January 9-10: Wild card playoffs
January 16-17: Divisional playoffs
January 24: Conference championships
January 31: Pro Bowl in Miami, FL
February 7: Super Bowl in Miami, FL
February 24-March 2: NFL Combine in Indianapolis
March 5: Free agency begins
March 21-24: Owners meetings in Orlando, FL
April 22-24: NFL Draft

NBA:

January 5-10: Day contracts may be signed
January 10: Contracts guaranteed for remainder of season
February 12-14: All-Star weekend in Dallas
February 18: Trade deadline, 3 PM ET
April 14: Regular season ends
April 17: Playoffs begin
April 25: Early entry deadline for NBA draft
May 18: Draft lottery
June 3: NBA Finals begin
June 14: Early entry withdrawal deadline for NBA draft
June 24: NBA draft

NHL:

February 15-28: Olympic break
March 1: Regular season resumes
March 3: Trade deadline
April 11: Regular season ends
April 14: Stanley Cup playoffs begin

MLB:

January 5-15: Salary arbitration filing
January 6: Hall of Fame Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) voting announced.
January 13-14: Owners meetings, Scottsdale, AZ
January 19-Exchange of salary arbitration figures
February 1-21: Salary arbitration hearings, St. Petersburg, FL
February 18: Voluntary Spring Training reporting date for ptchers, catchers and injured players
February 23: Voluntary reporting date for other players
March 2: Mandatory reporting date
March 2-11: Teams may renew contracts of unsigned players
March 17: Last day to place players on unconditional release waivers and pay 30 days termination pay instead of 45 days
March 31: Last day to request unconditional release waivers on a player withot having to pay his full 2010 salary
April 4: Opening day, New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox, active rosters reduced to 25 players
April 12: Target Field in Minnesota opens
May 21: Interleague play begins
June 7-9: Amateur deaft, Secaucus, NJ
July 13: All-Star game at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, CA
July 25: Hall of Fame inductions in Cooperstown, NY
July 31: Non-waiver trade deadline, 4 PM ET
August 15: Last day to sign selections from 2010 amateur draft who have not exhausted college eligibility
August 31: Waiver trade deadline
September 1: Active rosters expand to 40 players
October: Postseason begins-date to be determined
November: Free agent filing period, first 15 days after World Series ends
December 6-9: Winter meetings in Lake Buena Vista, FL
December 12: Last day for teams to offer 2011 contracts to unsigned players
